1. Any candidate with a disability is entitled to have his/her needs addressed on an individual basis.

This unit looks at the specific access arrangements related to candidates with sensory impairment.

For convenience the arrangements have been grouped into activities relating to the nature of the sensory impairment.

You will notice that many arrangements are common to candidates with hearing, vision and multi-sensory impairment. However, it is important to remember that any candidate with a disability is entitled to have his/her needs addressed on an individual basis.

The arrangements are described in terms of:

  • Rationale — what the arrangements is aiming to provide
  • Description — how the arrangement is applied
  • Constraints — any limitations on the arrangement
  • Evidence — what supporting evidence should be provided to justify the arrangement for the candidate
  • Considerations — other issues to consider when using the arrangement

For each arrangement, details are given:

  • Process — how to apply for the arrangement
  • JCQ guidance — link to the relevant guidance
