More InformationPriestley Smith School now offers a range of Practical Sensory Services to Professionals, Schools and Students. These include direct delivery of support and training, teaching and learning packages, adapted specialist programmes of work, access to technology and production of high quality braille and tactile diagrams. Whilst this is primarily aimed at children and young people (CYP) with vision impairments, certain services are also offered to CYP with Hearing Impairments (HI) or Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Priestley Smith has been Outstanding at the last three Ofsted inspections.
We can offer Habilitation, Reprographics, VI Tech Services and Specialist Curriculum Support.
Habilitation, in addition to offering bespoke training to individual students in Orientation and Mobility (O&M) and Independent Living Skills (ILS) and specialist small group ILS courses, the Habilitation Team can offer a wide range of CPD programmes to Professionals, Schools and Colleges . This includes awareness training in O&M, Sighted Guide techniques and ILS, training in the practical delivery of independent living skills, purchasable schemes of work and parental engagement packages. Mobility Training is primarily directed at children with vision impairments, but similar programmes are also available to pupils with Hearing Impairments (HI) or Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC).
The Reprographics Team will provide tactile access to whole reading schemes, text books, SATs work, conversion to UEB braille and past assessment papers.Custom braille for menus, business cards or handouts or a child’s own copy of their favourite book produced in braille or large print Ask for a quote.
The VI Technician’s Service can offer advice on selecting suitable devices, networking and systems, melding specialist as well as advice, service and repairs for Specialist PCs Laptops, Apple devices, Braillenotes and Braillers.
Curriculum Support Support, provides advice and resources to help your vision impaired students to successfully access the curriculum, available with or without training. Topic areas include Food Technology, Physical Education (PE), Personal Health and Social Education (PHSE), Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) in line with the 2020 curriculum changes.
