Our Borough includes Ellesmere Port, Chester, Winsford, Northwich and Rural West Cheshire. Our Visual Impairment Team is a small team working alongside Occupational Therapists and Social Workers covering the whole of the Cheshire West and Chester borough.

We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic, resourceful and motivated individual who understands the needs and aspirations of people living with sight loss, someone willing to work with individuals to enhance their quality of life and promote independence. We expect you to be confident about working independently with people who need our services who are from different cultures and backgrounds.

What you’ll be doing

Assessing visually impaired children and adults and providing support plans and mobility training to help them become more independent and reduce risk. Act as an advocate for those who are visually impaired and the organisation to help promote accessible services, equality, social integration and understanding of the impact of sight loss.

Qualifications and Experience

Honours Degree or Dip.H.E / Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment) or equivalent. Up to date professional registration.

Experience in the role is preferred although newly graduated applicants will be considered, mentoring will be provided. Experience working with children and people who are deaf and blind is desirable.

An understanding of current legislation and confidence using electronic recording systems to complete specialist assessments is essential along with confident delivery of mobility, daily living skills and communication training including Braille. We are looking for a person who is confident has good organisational and communication skills with good experience of planning routes and delivering mobility training with all age groups.

Above all, you have a natural ability to help make the lives of others more fulfilling and want to work in an environment where the work can be hard, but also fun and rewarding.

You will need a full driving licence and have your own transport. The role will require an enhanced DBS which the Council will organise and pay for
