The Berkshire Sensory Consortium Service (BSCS) currently have a vacancy
for a Registered Qualified Habilitation Specialist Officer (RQHS) to work in a
peripatetic role with vision impaired young people 0- 25 years to maximise
their independence and inclusion through working with professionals and
parents in a range of educational and social settings. The post is not school
term only and also involves some evening and weekend work as required.
The salary will depend if the candidate is qualified or in training.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated professional committed
to improve the outcomes for all our vision impaired young people particularly
around independence and mobility. The role requires flexibility and the ability
to work independently. You will need to be an effective communicator with
adults and young people and understand the impact of vision or multi-sensory
impairment. The successful candidate will have experience in the delivery of
habilitation programmes ideally with children and young people (CYP).

We will consider candidates with relevant experience without the qualification
who are interested in developing their specialist skills to work with pupils who
are vision impaired. They should have experience of working with children and
young people with special educational needs in schools and / or home

If unqualified the successful candidate must be willing to undertake the two-
year specialist postgraduate qualification to train as a RQHS. The Service
provides a mentorship programme for all new members of staff.
Due to the nature of this role you must be able to travel independently to meet
the requirements of the post. A mileage allowance is available from your office
base. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable. The RQHS
will work across a number of the Berkshire Local Authorities.

BSCS is hosted by Achieving for Children on behalf of the Royal Borough of
Windsor and Maidenhead as part of the pan Berkshire joint arrangements to
deliver the service.

The Berkshire Sensory Consortium Service as part of Achieving for Children
is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to the safeguarding of all
