The Dorset Vision Support Service (VSS) have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Mobility and Habilitation Specialist.
You will work closely with the other habilitation specialist within the team of around ten people, including advisory teachers of the vision impaired, a resource technician and keyboarding instructors.
You will have a caseload of children and young people and develop programs to teach independent living skills, orientation and mobility. You will work closely with the other team members on developing appropriate objectives to help the CYP reach their full potential. Deliver short term programs and events to support the development of social skills and conduct access audits and risk assessments where needed. You will have the opportunity for life long learning through professional development.
The VSS has an agile working policy. You will be working primarily in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) area with some rural Dorset as well.
We would like a keen team player to join the service with a Degree in habilitation work or equivalent.
You will need to have:
An understanding of child and social development
Understanding of appropriate strategies to enhance functional vision
Understanding of the principle of assessing functional vision for the purpose of mobility and orientation
An understanding of the SEN Code of Practice
An understanding of environmental factors affecting safe mobility
Recent experience working as a Mobility and Habilitation Specialist
