This is an exciting opportunity to join the Vision Support Service for Children and Young People (CYP) with a vision impairment aged 0-25 years. We currently have a vacancy for a habilitation officer to work in a peripatetic role with CYP aged 0-25 years to maximise their independence and inclusion. You will work across the whole of Sheffield in a range of homes, Early Years settings, Schools and Colleges, working with professionals and parents.

You will work within the Habilitation team, to implement programmes of work with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom, and in their homes. You will work in partnership with Service staff, staff in schools and with families and outside agencies to provide positive outcomes for CYP. You will work closely with the team to develop the implementation of the Quality Standards for the delivery of habilitation training.

It is crucial that applicants have considerable experience of working with CYP with a vision impairment in an educational setting. The role requires flexibility and the ability to work independently.

You either must have the graduate diploma in Habilitation or be willing to undertake a 2 year Post Graduate training course, starting in September, to gain a Graduate Diploma in Habilitation, which will lead to MISE registration. This will enable you to qualify as a Habilitation Specialist.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Bernadette Roe-Dean, Head of Service, Sarah Blake, Peripatetic Team Leader, or Karen Beaumont, Business Officer on 0114 2941201.
