About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Sensory and Physical SEN Team working as a
Qualified Teacher for Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (QTVI).

We are looking for a skilled and experienced QTVI who is familiar with working in a diverse multi-
cultural environment. The ideal candidate would have experience of work across a diverse age
range, including young babies and pre-school children. You may have a wider knowledge of special
educational needs and will show a commitment to supporting successful inclusion. You will also
appreciate the importance of teamwork within a peripatetic service and be able to show evidence of
supporting colleagues.

This is an advisory peripatetic role. You will be expected to work in a variety of different locations
across the borough. A travel allowance or essential car user allowance is attached to this post.

About The Team You’ll Be Working In

Hounslow's Sensory and Physical SEN Team is well-established and respected, providing a hearing
impairment, vision impairment and physical disability/ complex medical needs advisory service to
preschool, schools and educational settings for the children and young people of Hounslow.
The post involves working within a multi-disciplinary service, of enthusiastic and successful sensory
impairment and physical disability advisory teachers & specialist practitioners, supporting the effective inclusion of children & young people in mainstream and special school/settings; as well as
working with children, young people, and their families.

A key focus of the team is promoting inclusion, empowerment, progress and raising of attainment
for the vision impaired children and young people of Hounslow ensuring they are prepared for
adulthood and success.

You will report to the lead for the Sensory and Physical SEN Team who is also a qualified teacher of
the deaf.

About You

 You will be a QTVI with extensive experience and confidence in promoting the inclusion of
vision impaired children and young people in schools/colleges (including special), pre-school
settings and homes by offering strategies to facilitate the learning of children with a vision
impairment in the classroom and by making recommendations on the use of appropriate
resources and technology.
 You will have excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, the ability to work independently and
the ability to contribute to the wider Sensory and Physical SEN Team.
 You will provide practical support and advice to the parents and carers of pre-schoolers,
children and young people with vision impairment helping them to understand the nature of
their child’s visual impairment and how to support all aspects of their child’s development
and learning, at home and in the community.
 You will enjoy building relationships with schools, families and children and young people,
working in partnership with them seeking to improve outcomes for all our young people
with vision impairment.
 We will consider suitably experienced teachers without the mandatory qualification who are
interested in developing their skills in this field and willing to undertake the mandatory
training in this field.
 Enhanced DBS check is required.
