GCSE Revision Course
What is the GCSE Revision Course?
This four-day residential course is to support students with a visual impairment in Years 10 and 11, with preparation for their GCSE exams. There will also be a programme of entertainment and social activities during the evening and the opportunity to socialise with one another and relax after a hard day’s studying!
The course covers the main curriculum subjects of Maths, English and Science, looking at particular areas which can prove problematic for students with a visual impairment, such as graph plotting, analysing extended pieces of text and practical assessment in science. There are also sessions looking at study and revision skills along with practice questions from past papers.
As well as learning a range of skills to support their general learning, students will learn specific approaches to revision and exam techniques such as:
- UEB Maths
- Practical Science
- Tactile Diagrams
- Study Skills
- Exam technique
By the end of the course students will understand that there are others with the same issues, but that a visual impairment does not need to be a barrier to success. Students enjoy being one of a group, who work together to find their way around the College, socialise together and work together.
Accommodation
Participants on the course will be offered accommodation in the residential houses on site and meals will be taken in the College dining room.
Relaxation time
In the evenings the students can enjoy a range of activities such as tandem riding and ten pin bowling, making new friends and sharing experiences.
Who can benefit
The course is open to all Year 10 and 11 students with a visual impairment in mainstream schools and is a mixture of partially sighted and blind students.
Price
The course is free for students and is funded as part of the College’s Outreach programme.
When
The next Revision Course is from Tuesday 27th March at 4pm to Friday 30th March 2018 at 1pm.
