“We are very pleased to welcome Dr Andrew Blaikie to an training seminar on 9 October 10-12.30. He will lead talks on eye conditions and how they affect a child’s learning. Dr Andrew Blaikie is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in NHS Fife and Senior Lecturer in the Infection and Global Health Research Division team at the University of St Andrews. He has studied, worked and taught throughout Africa and was lead for paediatric ophthalmology at CCBRT Hospital in Dar es Salaam in 2011. He is currently a member of the Vision 2020 WHO links partnerships in Malawi and Indonesia. Within the NHS Dr Blaikie has been instrumental in setting up support groups and national datasets for childhood visual impairment. He has led the establishment of the National Notification system for Childhood Visual Impairment. He has advised on or written much of the content of CVI Scotland. His main interests are cerebral visual impairment and neuro-ophthalmic disease in both children and adults and their associations with deprivation.
