VIEW Letter to Minister for SEND
As the representative body for qualified teachers of children and young people with vision impairment (QTVIs) VIEW is increasingly alarmed at the growing impact of local authority budget cuts on provision throughout the sector.
VIEW’s letter to the Minister for SEND urges the Department to review as a matter of priority its policy towards the future of specialist education centres for learners with VI. In the letter we illustrate how they form an essential part of the overall pattern of provision for this complex and vulnerable group of learners, whose long-term life chances depend so heavily on the quality of their education. Once lost, these centres will be impossible to recreate and the whole sector will be seriously diminished.
