Empower Visually Impaired Students: Become a Specialist Support Professional (SSP) QTVI Qualified Teacher for Visually Impaired
Start: September 2025 | Location: Sheffield Hallam University (in-person)
Time Commitment: 1-2 hour per week minimum (flexible scheduling, mutually agreed)

TERRA Consultancy is seeking passionate and qualified Specialist Support Professionals (SSPs) QTVI to support a student with visual impairment starting September 2025. This role involves weekly, in-person sessions at Sheffield Hallam University, with flexible timing to be arranged between the tutor and student.

Role Overview
As an SSP / QTVI, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one academic support to visually impaired students. Your responsibilities will include:

Adapting Learning Resources: Structuring content, simplifying documents, describing images, and creating accessible formats (e.g., embossed diagrams).

Skim Reading & Summarizing: Assisting blind students with research and content review.

Organizing Resources: Helping students obtain and manage their study materials.

Assignment Support: Assisting with planning, proofreading, referencing, and academic writing.

Research Support: Aiding with literature searches and reading academic texts aloud.

Staff Collaboration: Advising lecturers and staff to support inclusive learning.

Fostering Independence: Helping students develop study strategies while ensuring continued access to learning materials.

Candidate Requirements
Strong communication and organizational skills

Understanding of accessible learning and adaptive technologies

Experience supporting individuals with visual impairments (preferred)

Passion for inclusive education

Required Qualifications (must meet one of the following):
Option A: A vision-related postgraduate qualification such as:

PGDip Inclusive Education (Visually Impaired Learners)

PGDip Teaching Learners with a Visual Impairment (QTVI)

MA Education of Children and Young People with Vision Impairments

PGDip Supporting Learners with Visual Impairments in Further Education

OR

Option B:
Any postgraduate degree (e.g., PGCE, MA, MSc, PhD) plus a vision-related specialist qualification such as:

Graduate Diploma in Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight (Children and Young People)
