About the Role
Terra Consultancy is urgently seeking a qualified Qualified Teacher of Deaf / SI or Specialist Support Professional for Deaf or Sensory Impaired students (SSP-D) to provide 1:1 academic support at the University of Hull. This role focuses on enabling access to learning for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in Higher Education, in line with DSA NMH Band 4 requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored, student-centred academic access support during lectures, seminars, tutorials (on-campus and online).
Support understanding of English carrier language, academic writing, research, and study strategies.
Adapt language of assignment briefs and materials where appropriate (not subject teaching).
Route A: Deaf-related postgraduate qualification (e.g., MA/PGDip Deaf Education, Qualified Teacher of the Deaf, MA in BSL/English Interpreting),
OR
Route B: Any postgraduate qualification (e.g., PGCE, FHEA, MA/MSc/PhD) PLUS a deaf-related specialist qualification (e.g., Deaf Studies degree, CSW qualification, BSL Level 4+).
If the student uses BSL, you must hold BSL Level 2/3 or above.
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
Understanding of Deaf learners’ needs in HE and ability to work collaboratively.
