About the Role
Terra Consultancy is looking for an experienced Mobility Trainer to provide specialist orientation and mobility support to students with visual impairments at universities and colleges in Leeds. The role aims to equip students with the practical skills needed to navigate safely and independently on campus and in the local area.
Key Responsibilities
Provide individual orientation and mobility training, including route planning and safe navigation techniques.
Assess student needs and develop personalised mobility strategies for campus and daily life.
Deliver training in environmental awareness, use of mobility aids, and confidence-building techniques.
Work in partnership with Disability Services and external specialists as required.
Maintain accurate session logs and comply with DSA/NMH quality standards.
Essential Criteria (DfE NMH Matrix Compliant)
Recognised Mobility Instructor qualification, such as:
Diploma in Higher Education: Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment)
Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation Work
Other equivalent or higher-level qualification in visual impairment rehabilitation.
Recent experience delivering mobility/orientation training.
Understanding of the challenges faced by visually impaired students in HE.
– Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
– Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
Registration with Rehabilitation Workers Professional Network (RWPN) or similar.
Experience supporting students under the DSA framework.
Familiarity with assistive technology used by visually impaired learners.
