Are you ready to empower children and young people to thrive?
Join our Countywide Sensory Team as a Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (QTVI) and become part of a dedicated group that delivers specialist support with compassion, innovation, and excellence. This is your opportunity to make a lasting impact whilst helping learners develop their independence, confidence, and the skills they need to succeed in education and beyond.
About the Role
You will deliver high-quality, timely assessments and interventions under the guidance of the Lead Advisory Teacher, working collaboratively with families, educational settings, and health professionals to support children and young people with visual impairments.
You’ll teach specialist skills such as Braille, the use of assistive technologies, and independent living techniques, while also modifying curriculum materials and advising on access arrangements for exams. A key part of your role will be to promote high aspirations and support smooth transitions at key educational stages, including preparation for adulthood.
You’ll contribute to service development, safeguarding, and emotional wellbeing initiatives, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, eye conditions, and best practices in visual impairment education.
About You
If you are ready to make an impact, you will need to hold Qualified Teacher Status and the mandatory QTVI qualification. You will bring experience working with children and young people (ages 0–25) with visual impairments and additional needs, and you will feel confident in assessing and recommending specialist equipment and technologies.
Your excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills will help you build strong relationships, while your ability to manage a caseload means you can work both independently and collaboratively as part of our team.
You will understand the Gloucestershire Graduated Pathway and SEND processes, and you will be committed to safeguarding, equality, and your own continuous professional development.
A valid driving licence and access to a car for countywide travel will also be essential in this rewarding role.
This is more than a teaching role, it's a chance to be a champion for inclusion, independence, and opportunity. If you're passionate about making education accessible and meaningful for every learner, we’d love to hear from you.
