About this opportunity

Due to the retirement of our current QTVI, we are seeking to recruit an experienced and passionate individual who is committed to improving the educational and life-experiences for children and young people with a visual impairment. This role is open to individuals with a teaching qualification and a minimum of one year’s teaching experience. Relevant post-graduate qualifications in teaching students with visual impairment are desirable but there will be an opportunity for the right candidate to train in the role. Arrangements will be made for newly qualified QTVIs to be mentored.

As the only QTVI in the Sensory service, you will need to be flexible, hard-working and able to work under direction, as well as on your own initiative. The Sensory service also includes some highly experienced HLTAs and we have a contract with Guide Dogs for habilitation work. In addition, you will be supported by a wider team of Specialist Advisory Teachers (SATS) and the Educational Psychology service, with whom you will have strong working relationships. Westmorland and Furness SATS are a close-knit team who work well with each other and partner agencies.

This is an advisory peripatetic role and you will cover the whole of the Westmorland and Furness council footprint. You will be expected to work in a variety of different locations across the council. An essential car user allowance is attached to this post. You will be able to negotiate your own work-base and there will be some opportunities to work from home.

If this sounds like your next challenge, please contact Andi Henderson (Principal Educational Psychologist: andrea.henderson@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk) or Pam Robertson (Sensory Team Lead: pam.robertson@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk) for more information or an informal discussion.

What can we offer you!

*Excellent training and development offers
*Opportunity to join the Teachers Pensions Scheme
*Various perks and discounts schemes, including money off your phone contract and local gyms
*Competitive rates of pay
*DBS

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and requires an enhanced DBS check.

Please note this role involves working in regulated activity with Children. It is an offence for people who are barred from working in regulated activity to apply for roles that require them to work unsupervised with Children.
